  225.                ABOUT THIS DISK
  226.           
  227.                The simplest way to print this Guide continuously: Turn on
  228.           your printer and insert your Writer's Heaven disk in drive A. At
  229.           the A> prompt, type
  230.                                         GUIDE 
  231.           followed by RETURN (ENTER). This prints out the file GUIDE.
  232.                You can also print the file with PC-Write, if you use
  233.           PC-Write's default page layout settings, with no left margin.

  246.                INSTALLING WRITER'S HEAVEN
  247.           
  248.                Once installed, Writer's Heaven will be called up
  249.           automatically whenever you start PC-Write. To install Writer's
  250.           Heaven in PC-Write 3.0 or later:
  251.           
  252.                1. Copy the Writer's Heaven file HEAVEN to your PC-Write
  253.           working disk or directory.

  260.                To copy HEAVEN from the Writer's Heaven disk in drive A to
  261.           a working disk in drive B, the command at the A> prompt would be
  262.                                    COPY HEAVEN B: 
  263.           followed by RETURN (ENTER).
  264.                Note: If your workdisk is short of room, you can delete
  265.           nonessential PC-Write files like PRINT.TST and CHARS.TST. Or you
  266.           can move help or spelling files to another disk.
  267.           
  268.                2. Use PC-Write to call up ED.DEF, the PC-Write edit control
  269.           file on your working disk or directory. (In the upcoming PC-Write
  270.           Lite, the equivalent file may be called E.DEF.) On a new line at
  271.           the BOTTOM of the file, type
  272.                                        !HEAVEN 
  273.           If the file contains the line "!PR.DEF", make sure the line
  274.           "!HEAVEN" comes AFTER it!
  275.                Save the file and exit with F1, F2.
  276.           
  277.                For PC-Write 2.6-2.71, use the same procedure as above, but
  278.           substitute the file HEAVEN2 for HEAVEN, and the line "!HEAVEN2"
  279.           for "!HEAVEN".

  334.                There are several sets of command keys in Writer's Heaven.
  335.           The first and most important is the Unit Keys. These ten keys
  336.           form a command "matrix" that enables you to move the cursor or
  337.           delete by character, word, line, sentence, or paragraph--in
  338.           either direction--with a single keystroke.
  339.                Unit keys with Control will move the cursor, while the same
  340.           keys with Alt will delete. Also, left-hand keys move or delete
  341.           backward, while right-hand keys move or delete forward.

  543.           Ctrl-W    Insert character.
  544.           
  545.           Note: The Symbol Key is used to insert font symbols and other
  546.           special characters. It substitutes for the PC-Write Alt-letter
  547.           commands displaced by Writer's Heaven.
  548.                To insert a special character, first press and release the
  549.           Symbol Key, then the regular PC-Write key--but with Control or
  550.           alone, instead of with Alt. For example, instead of pressing
  551.           PC-Write's Alt-G to insert a Guide line symbol, first press and
  552.           release Ctrl-W, then Ctrl-G or just G.
  553.                For "almost-compatible" computers and keyboards, the Symbol
  554.           Key also provides a substitute means of switching modes. To
  555.           switch between Pushright and Overwrite, press and release the
  556.           Symbol Key, then Insert. To switch Hide Mode on and off, press
  557.           and release the Symbol Key, then Delete. Do not use Control with
  558.           Insert or Delete.
  559.                The Symbol Key cannot be used when recording keystrokes.

  584.                INSIDE WRITER'S HEAVEN
  585.           
  586.                Basically, Writer's Heaven is a special set of "macros"--
  587.           PC-Write keyboard redefinition commands--collected in a control
  588.           file named HEAVEN. This is a normal text file you can edit. The
  589.           macros use PC-Write's own functions, singly or combined, to
  590.           create the Writer's Heaven commands.
  591.                The "!HEAVEN" line in ED.DEF tells PC-Write to "read" HEAVEN
  592.           after ED.DEF, on startup. If you find some keys not acting as
  593.           expected, check ED.DEF for all files PC-Write is instructed to
  594.           read, and their order of listing. A macro will be cancelled by
  595.           any macro read later that contradicts it. For example, if
  596.           "!PR.DEF" is listed after "!HVN.DEF", the font control lines in
  597.           PR.DEF will cancel the Writer's Heaven Alt commands.

  600.                PERSONAL MACROS

  602.                Your macros in ED.DEF will be cancelled if they are assigned
  603.           to keys used by Writer's Heaven. These include all letter and
  604.           bracket keys with Ctrl, Alt, Shft-Ctrl, and Shft-Alt. (Ctrl-Alt
  605.           keys are not affected.) The ones that beep have been given no
  606.           actual commands, but merely made inactive for safety.
  607.                To reclaim control of these keys, place your macros at the
  608.           end of the file HEAVEN. Or you can place them in a separate file,
  609.           and put "!FILENAME" after "!HEAVEN" in ED.DEF.
  610.                If you use The Editing Keypads by David Brender (RD 2,
  611.           Box 46, Wells Bridge, NY 13859, 607-988-2849), you will find that
  612.           Writer's Heaven will run at the same time, without interference
  613.           to either program.

  616.                "ALMOST-COMPATIBLE" COMPUTERS

  618.                If you are using PC-Write's ED.SPC or ED.TRS files for
  619.           "almost-compatible" computers or keyboards, Writer's Heaven will
  620.           cancel some or most of PC-Write's key substitutions. Most of
  621.           these functions will be available through Writer's Heaven
  622.           commands themselves. However, there may be others you will want
  623.           to reassign to keys of your choice. For more information, see the

  646.                Accompanying Writer's Heaven is a public-domain cursor
  647.           speedup program called Hotkey. We're including Hotkey for those
  648.           who don't have an extended keyboard (see above) or use any other
  649.           means to speed up their cursor. We recommend it for use with
  650.           Writer's Heaven. We don't know who wrote it, but we're grateful!
  651.                Hotkey is better behaved than most such programs. However,
  652.           if at times a scroll "runs away," just press any key to stop it.
  653.                The program file is HOTKEY.COM, and documentation is in
  654.           HOTKEY.DOC.

  657.                PROPORTIONAL FONTS
  658.           
  659.                If you use a proportional font other than V "variable"--for
  660.           example, on a Hewlett-Packard Laserjet or Deskjet--PC-Write will
  661.           not format the line length properly when used with Writer's
  662.           Heaven. This is because Writer's Heaven displaces PC-Write's
  663.           Alt-letter commands.
  664.                To properly format your document before printing, follow
  665.           these steps:
  666.           
  667.                1. Use F2, F6 to ask PC-Write to "read" your print control
  668.           file--normally called PR.DEF. This restores the PC-Write
  669.           Alt-letter commands.

  671.                2. Mark your entire document by pressing Ctrl-F5.

  673.                3. Press F7 to reformat. You may also need to repage, with
  674.           Alt-F7.

  676.                4. Clear the marking, with F5.

  678.                Your document will be ready to print. To restore the
  679.           Writer's Heaven commands, use F2, F6, asking PC-Write to "read"
